Paaseitjesverkoop goed voor 200 brillen

Dinsdag 28 april 2015 ontving de voorzitter van de WIC-Semarang een cheque van € 3000 voor de aanschaf van 200 brillen voor kansarme kinderen in Semarang, Indonesië.

Jaarlijks verkoopt RANA paaseitjes voor het goede doel. Dit jaar droeg International Service van RANA een project aan dat in Indonesië werd ondersteund en begeleid door de Women International Club van Semarang (WIC) met als thema “Saving our next generation”.

WIC wil brillen aanschaffen voor slechtziende lagere school leerlingen.

Kinderen uit kansarme gezinnen wonen met hun familie in achterstandswijken en zijn arm. Ze moeten vaak onder erbarmelijke omstandigheden leren. School is gratis, maar brillen zijn dat niet.

De scholen met kansarme kinderen zijn in kaart gebracht. Een team van WIC-Semarang bezoekt de scholen en reikt een testkit met brillen uit aan de docenten die de brillen uittest op slechtziende kinderen. Het team van WIC-Semarang bezoekt vervolgens met een optometrist voor de tweede keer de scholen. De optometrist test dan de sterkte van de glazen voor de kinderen die een (lees)bril nodig hebben. Allemaal gehaal gratis. Alleen de aanschaf van de brillen (metalen frame, plastic glazen) kosten € 15 per stuk.

Dit jaar bracht de paaseitjesverkoop een bedrag op € 3000, goed voor de aanschaf van 200 brillen. 200 kinderen in Semarang krijgen een goede bril en kunnen hun leercapaciteit verhogen om zo meer kans te krijgen op een beter leven.

Voorzitter/president Lili Kanggoana Gondokusumo van de WIC Semarang was met haar familie een paar dagen in Nederland en was blij verrast dat de ‘hollandse paaseitjes’ zoveel geld hadden opgebracht.

Bij een van een RANA leden thuis werd de cheque officieel overhandigd en werden de vaantjes uitgeruild. Natuurlijk onder genot van thee met paaseitjes die speciaal voor dit moment waren bewaard.

Name of Project : Free eye glasses for the less fortunate primary school students

Total : € 3.000

Target : 200 pairs of eye glasses for 200 students

Realization : With the help of the optometrist, we could get a subsidized

price from the distributor, and for the amount of € 3.000, we could get 400 glasses. Up to this date, we have distributed 221 pairs of glasses to 9 schools around Semarang. We are still working for more schools outside Semarang. We hope to finish this project before the end of year 2015.

In addition to this project, we also distribute shoes for the students. The shoes were donated by Loggo shoes. 

Implementation : 

1.	Social Welfare section of WIC Semarang informed the members about this project and urge them to be aware of the condition of the less fortunate children around their neigbourhood.

2.	Members who found school with less fortunate condition any poor student will inform Social Welfare Section.

3.	The Social Welfare team then will go to the particular school and hand in the eye test paper to the class teachers. The teachers will then test the student's vision in their classes.

4.	Social Welfare team and the optometrist then will come again to this school to check the indicated students with an optometrist equipment.

5.	After being tested and confirm that the student needs glasses, the students may choose the frame.

6.	When the glasses ready, the team will be back to the school to hand in the glasses to the children.

8. SD Islam Gergaji​​​  ​: 16 students

9. SD Tarcisius  ​​​​​: 22 students

How are you going? First of all we would like to apologize for taking too much time to report to you the Eyeglasses Program of RANA. But despite the rather slow progress, we have also good news. We met a reliable eyeglasses supplier that very willing to support this program by giving us a very good price. The price saves almost 50% of the budget. So we could buy double the amount.

One of my friends, has a shoes manufacturer. When I told her about the free eyeglasses for poor students, she spontaneously asked me if I could help her to distribute free shoes for them too. The kindness snow ball of RANA is rolling all the way to Semarang !

So, every visit to these less fortunate schools,  we send glasses to studentswho need and shoes for ever student. Please see the report as attached.

This report is not final yet. We have still half way to go in distributing the rest of the glasses.

We are targeting to complete the project at the end of year 2015.
