Lecture "The International Perspective"
"I'm not sure why we pretend we have a choice not to start hiring internationals," was a comment of one of the companies present during last night's event "Groningen: an International Perspective".
The Mayor of Groningen Koen Schuiling had an inspiring opening speech about the need to internationalize in order to thrive locally, and Joyce Walstra shared her insights on the need for more skilled workers, of which we simply don't have enough in the Netherlands right now, and will have even fewer Dutch workers in the future.
During the panel, Dick Wierenga (Voys), M.J. Kasteleijn (International Welcome Center North (IWCN)), Anastasija Zihareva (International Groningen), and our own project manager Marjolein Wiersma discussed the upsides and downsides, and tips and tricks and support available to help Dutch organizations hire and integrate internationals.
Companies in the audience shared their own experiences ("we have 22 nationalities!"), and one major conclusion was that the North is a lot more international than we realize.
Companies in the Northern Netherlands manufacture parts and products that are used all over the world.
