Wat is de Young Energy Society Challenge?
De doelen zijn helder. Met het Klimaatakkoord van Parijs en de noodzaak om als Zeeland niet ‘onder te gaan in de golven’ is een versnelling van de energietransitie nodig. Voor het jubilerende Koninklijk Zeeuwsch Genootschap der Wetenschappen aanleiding voor één van de belangrijkste prijsvragen uit haar geschiedenis: de Young Energy Society Challenge, de YESC, met als vraag 'Hoe versnellen we de energietransitie in Zeeland?'
De YESC is op 15 juni 2019 officieel van start gegaan tijdens de lustrumviering van het genootschap. Zeeuwse jongeren in het basisonderwijs, het voortgezet onderwijs en studenten in de groep 17 + hebben hard gewerkt aan hun oplossing. Tot uiterlijk 15 november 23.59 kunnen zij hun oplossing inzenden. De feestelijk prijsuitreiking vindt plaats op 12 december de Stadsschouwburg van Middelburg. |

Het programma is opgedeeld in vier blokken. Elk blok heeft zo zijn eigen focus, maar is toegankelijk voor alle genodigden. Bij aanmelding kunt u aangeven welke blokken u wilt bijwonen. Zo kunnen wij rekening houden met de aantallen.
Blok 1: 10.00 - 12.00 uur
Het eerste blok richt zich voornamelijk op de deelnemende studenten. Hier maakt u kennis met de twaalf genomineerde teams en hun ideeën. Er vinden aansluitend vier parallellopende, interactieve lezingen plaats die de vraag ‘Hoe versnellen we de energietransitie in Zeeland?’, elk vanuit een eigen invalshoek, behandelen. Binnenkort zullen de eerste sprekers bekendgemaakt worden.
Blok 2: 12.00 - 14.00 uur
Tijdens het tweede blok bieden wij een soep- en saladebuffet aan en kunt u 1-op-1 tijd met andere genodigden aanvragen. U bent vrij hieraan deel te nemen. Er zijn ruimtes beschikbaar voor uw eigen kantoorwerk of een meeting.
Blok 3: 14.00 - 16.30 uur
Na een inspirerende lezing van prof. dr. Matthijs Schouten zullen in het derde blok de twaalf genomineerde teams hun inzendingen uitgebreider presenteren en is er ruimte voor uw vragen. De twaalf presentaties vinden in drie sessies van ieder 25 minuten plaats. In de vier afzonderlijke ruimtes kunt u dus maximaal drie presentaties bijwonen. De shortlist van genomineerden en het presentatieschema zal te zijner tijd met u worden gecommuniceerd.
Blok 4: 16.30 - 19.30 uur
Ons expertpanel komt voor het diner samen tijdens de forumdiscussie. Iets voor vijf uur begint de debatcompetitie voor leerlingen uit het voortgezet onderwijs. Deze vindt parallel plaats. Tijdens het diner kijken we gezamenlijk terug op de dag. Welke lezingen, ideeën, en antwoorden spraken ons het meest aan? Welke verbindingen zijn er tijdens de dag gelegd en wie vonden we het meest inspirerend? Tegen 19.00 uur nemen de twee finalisten van de debatcompetitie het tegen elkaar op. Dit is het einde van het dagprogramma.
Prijsuitreiking
Alle gasten van de Summit zijn van harte uitgenodigd de prijsuitreiking van de YESC bij te wonen. Hier zullen de prijzen voor het voortgezet onderwijs en de categorie 17+ worden uitgereikt. De prijsuitreiking vindt plaats in de Schouwburg van Middelburg en begint om 20.00 (ontvangst vanaf 19.30). Meer informatie vindt u op de dag zelf bij de receptie.

Zoals u ziet is er voor ieder wat wils. U bent van harte uitgenodigd het hele programma bij te wonen; deelname aan slechts enkele blokken is ook mogelijk. Wij vragen u zich voor de Summit te registeren via aanmelden en uw aanwezigheid per tijdsblok aan te geven. |

Exchange thoughts and ideas about the current state of affairs and future of Zeeland’s energy supply and get inspired by our passionate speakers. In addition to the YESC nominees, the Summit is aimed at the regional C-level of business, industry and government and of course the significant players in the regional energy transition. |

You will get acquainted with the ideas of the twelve nominees and are invited to attend one of four interactive lectures that addresses YESC’s main question ‘How do we accelerate the energy transition in Zeeland’ from very different angles. Our expert panel will discuss a couple of challenging questions regarding the energy transition in Zeeland. What’s more, the province’s best high school debating teams will compete against each other in Zeeland’s high school energy debating competition. |

After the Summit, the award ceremony will take place at a separate location. Or course, you are all more than welcome to join us there.

PROGRAM
The program is divided in 4 blocks. Each block has its main focus but is accessible and relevant for all guests. Upon registration you can indicate which block you plan to attend.
Block 1: 10.00 - 12.00 a.m.
The first block aims at the nominated students. The twelve ideas will be briefly pitched after which four simultaneous, interactive lectures will address the question ‘How can we accelerate the energy transition in Zeeland?’ each in their own specific way. Stay tuned for the concrete program.
Block 2: 12.00 - 2.00 p.m.
During the second block you can enjoy lunch and book your 1-on-1 private time with another registered guest. You are free to participate in this scheme. Alternatively, we offer office space for your personal business.
Block 3: 2.00 - 4.30 p.m.
After lunch, prof. dr. Matthijs Schouten will treat us to one of his enthralling and confronting lectures about the current interaction of nature and humanity. Or do we better state it the other way around? Following this lecture three sessions of 4 simultaneous 25-minute presentations from the nominees will take place. This is your chance to further question the nominees about their ideas. We will communicate who the nominees are and the exact presentation schedule shortly before the Summit, so that you can choose which presentations to attend.
Block 4: 4.30 - 7.30 p.m.
Our expert panel will give their thoughts on three challenging questions regarding the energy transition in Zeeland. In the meantime, the high school energy debate competition will start. Information about this competition will be made available at the check-in desk. Over diner, we will summarize the day, together with you. We look into which themes and questions have popped up, what we have learned from the lectures, what inspired us and how we want to move forward with YESC.
So, who wins?!
No true competition with a proper award ceremony! All guests of the Summit are cordially invited to attend the YESC award ceremony. This award ceremony for secondary school contestants and the category 17+ will take place at the Schouwburg in Middelburg and commences at 20h (doors open at 19.30). More information about this will be available during the day at the reception.
